My husband, Rich, and I are on vacation this week on Longboat Key in Florida. The beaches and weather are beautiful and there are not many people here. We are enjoying a little piece of paradise.
My favorite place to vacation has always been the beach--especially a beach with warm water, soft sand and sun. I love sitting on the beach and reading a book with no where that I need to go. Listening to the surf and watching the shore birds. Getting a glimpse of fish and the occasional dolphin or manatee swimming by. Late night walks on the beach under the full moon. Taking time to unwind. |
What is Your Favorite Place to Vacation?
You and I are probably different in what we enjoy for vacation. Some may like the beach and some the mountains. Some may like to be with family and some like to get away. Some like an active vacation and some need time to relax. So, what does your perfect vacation look like and feel like? What can you do to create that for yourself? |
Bringing a Reminder of Vacation Time Home
I find it good to bring a reminder of my vacation home. I know that just seeing a reminder of a time when I am relaxed and enjoying myself can bring that same feeling to me at home. How about you? And it doesn't mean that you do not enjoy your home life or job to need to get away. A vacation is a break from the usual. A break from your everyday focus to regain balance. I do a lot of mental work and I enjoy a break to relax my mind. What do you feel you need a vacation from? Your job? The cold? Housework? Just to get away?
Here are Some of the Ways that I Bring Reminders of my Vacation Home:
- I have a dish of shells on my living room coffee table with a sea bird on it.
- I have a container of beach sand that I can run my fingers though.
- I have decorative items such as a mermaid, seahorse and nautical pillows.
- We renovated our bathroom in beach colors with pebbles on the floor. I made a mosaic made of ceramic shells, pebbles and glass on the shower wall.
- I paint watercolors and find it relaxing to paint shore scenes, light houses and sailboats. I painted the lion fish(below) using watercolors and glitter.
How can you bring more everyday balance to your own life by bringing reminders of your dream vacation, or whatever promotes relaxation for you, into your everyday surroundings?
I recommend grabbing a pen and paper and writing a few sentences about whatever comes to mind as your perfect vacation. Then list ways to bring a reminder or feel of that ideal vacation into your every day life. Take the time to implement at least one of your ideas. Also be sure to read a book or do something that you enjoy doing on vacation at home. We eat most of our meals outdoors in the summer which feels like vacation to me. What about you? What can you do at home that feels like vacation?
Time for me to get back to the beach!
